Dr. Joni Carley writes new book about harnessing the intangible elements of leadership
THE ALCHEMY OF POWER
Mastering the Invisible Factors of Leadership
Just like master scientists use principles of physics to transform energy into extraordinary displays of power, alchemical leaders use metaphysical principles to transform resources into results that exceed norms and expectations.
Grounded squarely in data, and anchored deeply in universal wisdom, The Alchemy of Power: Mastering the Invisible Factors of Leadership, by Dr. Joni Carley reveals what power is, what it means to have it, how to develop and manage it, and how to navigate the global call for leaders to use their power to create a better world by developing better workplaces.
The Alchemy of Power is rich with information and inspiration that connects studies on leadership, with emergent global trends, and with ageless metaphysical teachings—and ties it all to what’s on leaders’ minds and desktops right now.
The Alchemy Power guides leaders in developing their “mojo” and helps them:
- Create cultures that support effective flow of energy
- Identify and develop strengths, weaknesses, blind spots and growing edges
- Connect the dots between what’s on their desks, what’s in their hearts and minds, and the transformational times we’re living in
- Develop a deeply rooted understanding of what leadership and power are
- Take inspired action
And leads to a wealth of benefits across any organization including:
- Increased cultural accountability, resulting in greater efficiency and fewer surprises
- Vitality and co-creativity
- Values-driven decision-making
- Team alignment around shared vision
The Alchemy of Power offers the insight, wisdom, and keys for managing intangible factors and harnessing the metaphysical energy that makes things happen.

Reviews
“Fascinating! Grounded in research and ageless wisdom, this
book reveals a fundamental power source of success, and then
guides you through accessing and managing that power to
create a vibrant workplace in a verdant world.”
—John Perkins, New York Times Bestselling Author
“A must-read for successfully navigating the path of leadership
in transformational times. The Alchemy of Power establishes
solid new ground by bringing ancient and modern wisdom
together with data on values, leadership, and culture. Not
only does it expose the essential nature of leadership power,
it also provides clarity on what can be done with your power.”
—Rick Ulfik, Founder of We, the World
and the WE Campaign at WE.net
“After over a century of malaise from the misguided competition
rubric of Social Darwinism, both science and spirituality
tell us today that the causal modality for cultural evolution
is cooperation—and that humans are wired to demand both
objective and subjective ways of knowing. In consequence,
nothing is more urgent than understanding power in this
present context and our collective heritages of Wisdom—both
scientific and spiritual. Books like The Alchemy of Power hasten
this integration so vital for any viable future for our planet.”
—Kurt Johnson PhD, Co-author The
Coming Interspiritual Age and Fine Lines
Having held elected and appointed leadership positions in government and non-profit settings, I can see Dr. Carley has touched all facets of what constitutes the attainment and the responsible exercise of power reaching depths beyond other books on the topic. “Alchemy of Power” is a non-partisan distillation of basics of leadership drawing upon her experience that includes the United Nations, tycoons of business and tribal practices seen in the Amazon and Africa.
A bonus of the book is how the author looks ahead, not backwards, to where power can foster a better world for all.
